I have always been fascinated by fantasy and science fiction. Not surprisingly my two favourite authors are Andre Norton and Terry Pratchett.

Stories feature prominently in my mind, as I am unable to visualise images, a condition called Aphantasia.

Making up stories has been a part of my life since I was a child, I just convinced myself that I couldn’t write. That was until I read the book Dovetail by Bernard Pearson, written simply because someone told him everyone had a book in them.

From then on writing became a big part of my life.

My First Book is Published

Allycyon, Exiled Elf. This was the first full length novel l ever created, all the way back in 2019, just before Covid broke out. It has now been rewritten several times, as l improved as a writer and found a style l liked.

ALLYCYON, EXILED ELF

Allycyon had been looking forward to her eighteenth birthday for years, just like all other young teenagers on Helven. It was a date when you became an adult, it was also the date your magical screens switched on. These were visible only to you and provided a breakdown of all your skills and abilities whether normal or magical.

Allycyon’s eighteenth birthday was a disaster, apart from her screens switching on and getting a kiss from her hoped to be boyfriend that is.

An apprenticeship as a dancer, long promised by her parents, had come with a nasty sting in the tail. A personal price tag that Allycyon refused to pay.

Now forced to choose between an apprenticeship she no longer cared for, imprisonment, possible execution or simply running away, Allycyon sensibly chooses the latter.

A new life now seemed possible. A life in the Human Kingdoms as an Elf Dancer.

First though, she had to get there, which meant crossing the borderlands. An area reportedly filled with Bandits, Monsters and regular patrols of the Elf Army.

Setting off in the dark, Allycyon comes across a Dwarf and saves his life. Groff, a Dwarf in the same situation, is happy to pair up in order to cross the borderlands.

Afraid of being deemed just a woman, Allycyon takes charge when they meet up with others hiding out in the area. After a successful monster hunt, with Allycyon in charge, they form an adventuring guild in one of the neighbouring Kingdoms.

A life of adventure now beckons instead of the life of a dancer Allycyon had planned so long for.

The quests they accept though, don’t quite go according to plan.
